A 24-year-old man is brought to A&E by his flatmates after locking himself in his room overnight and sending a message saying he “didn’t want to be here anymore.” He has a history of low mood over several months but has never previously sought help. He denies current suicidal intent but reports persistent hopelessness, poor sleep, weight loss, and lack of motivation. He is not under any mental health team. You are asked to assess him as part of the psychiatry liaison team.
