A 42-year-old man presents at the clinic with a sudden onset of facial weakness on the left side. The patient reports waking up this morning and noticing that they couldn’t fully close their left eye and had difficulty smiling. The left corner of their mouth drooped, and they experienced trouble drinking from a glass. On examination, there is unilateral facial paralysis with inability to close the left eye completely, and when asked to smile, the left side of the mouth does not move. The patient is unable to raise the left eyebrow, and there is increased tearing on the left side. A diagnosis of Bell’s palsy is considered.
