A 15-year-old boy is referred to CAMHS following a GP assessment that confirmed a diagnosis of moderate depressive episode under ICD-10 criteria. Over the past 3 months, he has withdrawn from his friends, lost interest in football, and missed several weeks of school. He has a persistent low mood, poor sleep, reduced appetite, and expresses feelings of worthlessness. His mother reports he cries easily and has said things like, “I wish I could just disappear.” There has been no self-harm or suicide attempt. His father has a history of depression and alcohol misuse.
