A 72-year-old retired school teacher is brought to the memory clinic by his family due to progressively worsening memory loss and unusual behaviours over the past year. His family reports that he often seems confused and has difficulty organising his daily activities, such as cooking or managing his finances. Over the past 6 months, he has also developed vivid visual hallucinations, describing “children playing in the living room” or “birds flying in the house” when no one else sees them. These episodes are distressing to both him and his family.
